About this venue
The Jardín Botánico Atlántico is a plant museum run by the Gijón city council, conceived to study, conserve and raise awareness of the flora and vegetation of the North Atlantic biomes. It opened its doors on 25 April 2003 in the Cabueñes area.
Its living collections are organised into four areas: the Cantabrian Environment, the Plant Factory, the La Isla Garden and the Atlantic Route. The grounds incorporate the historic La Isla garden and two natural forests, the alder grove of the Peñafrancia river and the Carbayera del Tragamón. The centre also keeps a germplasm bank and a herbarium.
