Mayando se entiende la gente

This socio-cultural education program brings Asturian culture to all audiences through the practical experience of “mayar” (crushing apples) in the traditional way. Using miniature cider presses (llagares), participants discover the secrets of cider production in a direct and participatory way.

What the activity consists of

During the 60 minutes that the workshop lasts, attendees will carry out the following tasks:

• Assembly: Putting together the 36 pieces that make up the llagar.
• Process: Crushing apples with wooden mallets (mayos) and pressing the mixture to obtain fresh must.
• Tasting: Trying the freshly obtained must on the spot.
• Learning: Getting to know the parts of the llagar, the apple varieties, and the state of the apple pomace (magaya).
• Souvenir: Collecting apple seeds to be able to grow a new apple tree at home.

It is an ideal opportunity to get to know the Asturian cider tradition up close in a family-friendly and educational environment.
