Los polvos melancólicos is a comedy by ACAR Teatro del Mundo performed at the Teatro Auditorio de Grado as part of the Asturies, Cultura en Rede program. Its starting point is the sadness that sometimes appears after sex, known as post-coital dysphoria.
On stage, two actresses and two actors play a myriad of characters eager to love, dance, and enjoy themselves. The action takes place during any given summer, featuring flings, breakups, infidelity, and phases of varying promiscuity. The company defines it as a madcap comedy.
The play connects the sun and vitamin D with the so-called happiness hormone and the desires awakened by summer. From there, it plays with the crash that follows euphoria: melancholy, anxiety, or the tears of one of the protagonists after the encounter. Thus, it contrasts the pleasure of the little things with the frustration of ideal love.
