The Casino de Llanes is a modernist-inspired building in the very centre of the town, a few metres from the Town Hall. It was promoted in 1910 by the Sociedad Casino de Llanes and designed by the architect Juan Álvarez Mendoza. It was built to meet the wish of the indianos, emigrants returned from the Americas, for a place of recreation worthy of them.
It stands on the plot that, until the end of the 19th century, was occupied by the old iron-and-glass market. During the Civil War it housed the Casa del Pueblo and a court, and after the conflict it returned to its role as a social club. Inside, the monumental staircase and the Venetian-style mirrors catch the eye. It has been protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural since 2006.
