The Agencia Local de Promoción Económica y Empleo (ALPEE) is the Gijón/Xixón City Council body devoted to local development. It brings together the municipal policies on employment, training, career guidance, economic promotion and innovation, and works in close collaboration with the city’s business community. It is based in the Este district.
Each year it runs a set of programmes ranging from advice and support for people looking for work to qualification courses, with professional certifications and digital skills training, and hiring schemes designed to refresh work experience. It also promotes youth activation and work with young people at risk of leaving education early, manages municipal grants that make access to employment easier, and maintains a network of collaboration with companies and organisations.
