About the event

The Fiesta de Interés Turístico del Principado de Asturias of San Timoteo in Luarca/Ḷḷuarca is one of the most emblematic pilgrimages in the region.

The festivities start with a spectacular display of fireworks that illuminate the sky of the village. That same night, an animated evening party is celebrated and different festive spaces are set up for the enjoyment of all ages.

The 22nd of August is the central day of the great pilgrimage. From the early hours of the morning, the sound of firecrackers announces the start of the day, waking up the village. The peñas organize food and drink, and soon a tide of pilgrims heads towards the hermitage of San Timoteo. The sanctuary is located in the well-known Campo de San Timoteo, to which the participants arrive to the sound of bagpipes, dressed in the traditional chambrón, carrying a staff and the characteristic T of bread hanging from the neck.

After the mass in honor of the saint, whose image is transferred to an exterior chapel, the expected pilgrim lunch begins. This countryside meal brings together thousands of people in the meadows surrounding the hermitage, creating a festive and community atmosphere.
