Marina wants to escape from Perendi. The anxiety of life experiences, the brilliance of the big world, and an idealized future of professional success call her to adventure, burying her in the native valley. But, before leaving, she has to find, just in Perendi, the material for her research work that will facilitate her access to a research associate position at the University of Wisconsin: the pictorial work of a Syrian eccentric artist who immigrated to the municipality, endowed with the gift of pictorial prophecy and augur of deaths and catastrophes. However, to get the paintings, she has to face the resistance of the mother, the harsh pragmatism of Paulino the quiosqueru, and the suspicion of the parish priest, Anxel Madera. Through Ahmad Rami’s paintings, a semirural society in decline, pretentious of Asturian, is paraded, which, like each of its components, dies in a way as irreparable as ridiculous.
