A project by Carmen Santamarina.
“Book of Sentences” is a new exhibition proposal by an artist who continues an investigation as a result of her interest and study of poets with a feminine and feminist discourse whose readings allow her to continue building her “visual narrative” and delve into the condition of a woman. The range of references that Santamarina handles goes from the 17th-century Mexican nun and poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz to the contemporary Asturian poet Lourdes Álvarez, passing through authors such as Anne Carson, Sylvia Plath, or Olvido García Valdés.
From the verses of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a writer in “a society of masculine cultural values, which forces her to neutralize her sex to be able to access that masculine privilege that is, at that moment, knowledge”, the collagist Carmen Santamarina proposes a series of works made with her usual materials: old photographs in glicée printing and mixed techniques (painting, gold leaf, and objects).
