Literary encounter: «Para vivir muriendo», by Marcelo Matas de Álvaro

About the event

Literary encounter by Foro Cervantes at Librería Cervantes in Oviedo, where Marcelo Matas de Álvaro presents «Para vivir muriendo». The author will be accompanied by poet David Fueyo.

Andrés Retamar, a Philology student with aspirations of becoming a writer, sets out to tell the tragic story of Luis Escobar, his best childhood friend, who became the controversial actor Luis Guevara. He asks three flatmates for a sketch and then decides to write the story from his own perspective, but the appearance of Her, their neighbor in the neighborhood where they grew up, leads him to delve into the personality of the “strangest boy in the world”. The alternation of voices combines with different literary forms (theater, poetry, journalistic articles, reviews) and, linked to the character of Her, a representation of the Electra myth on the altar of a church.

With this novel, the author completes the trilogy «La urdimbre y la trama», set in the imaginary space of Belgrey and also comprising «Yo sé quién soy» (2020), winner of the Asturias Critics’ Prize for Narrative in Spanish, and «Enemiga mortal de mi descanso» (2023).
