About this venue

The Museo Barjola is a museum run by the Consejería de Cultura of the Principado de Asturias and opened on 16 December 1988. Its collection grew out of the donation to the Principado of works by the Extremaduran painter Juan Barjola, who handed over 104 pieces.

It is housed in the former La Trinidad complex on Calle Trinidad in Gijón, made up of the Jove palace house, of which only the main facade survives, and the La Trinidad chapel, a 17th-century example of Gijón Baroque. The building has four floors, and the former chapel hosts the temporary exhibitions, with a particular focus on sculpture.
