This week, Gijón offers a varied selection of cultural activities at no cost to enjoy the city. From film screenings and theater to contemporary art exhibitions, here are the best plans to make the most of your free time.

Cinema and special screenings

This week's film offerings stand out for their diversity, including everything from social documentaries to marathons of Asturian cinema in iconic spaces.

This documentary narrates the moving struggle for freedom of three generations of Afghan women. It is a free online event that you can enjoy from anywhere until May 22. To access it, you must complete an application form and receive a personal code.

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Asturias Film Commission, a film marathon featuring prominent Asturian feature films is being held. On May 23, films such as 'Infiesto' and 'Muyeres' will be screened, while on May 24, guided tours of the filming locations at Laboral will take place.

Performing arts and exhibitions

If you prefer theater or visual art, the city has high-quality offerings in its municipal centers and cultural halls.

The Teatro Kumen group presents this masterpiece by Valle-Inclán at the CMI Pumarín Gijón Sur. It is a piece full of irony and entanglements that is part of the 'Martes de Carnaval' trilogy. Admission is free until full capacity is reached, so arriving early is recommended.

This exhibition is the first major retrospective dedicated to Japanese photographer Sakiko Nomura in the city. You can visit the exhibition in Room 2 of the Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto until May 24. It is a unique opportunity to learn about the work of one of the most influential artists of her generation.
