URRACA I OF LEÓN, CASTILLA AND GALICIA, A QUEEN IN HER OWN RIGHT

Thursday, November 26, 2026, 07:00 PM
About the event

The historian and writer Pilar Sánchez Vicente analyzes the figure of Urraca I de León, Castilla y Galicia to reclaim her role as a monarch who ruled in her own right nine hundred years ago. This talk proposes a look free of prejudice at her political dimension and her ability to sustain the Crown in a context of constant dynastic conflicts.

This activity is part of the Foro de Mujeres de El Llano and has free access until full capacity is reached. It is an ideal opportunity to recover the history of a woman who, for centuries, was defined solely through chronicles written by others.

Through this session, we will learn the details of her reign beyond the usual clichés, exploring how her management marked the course of our history. If you are interested in historical dissemination with perspective, this is a highly recommended appointment to better understand the legacy of Urraca I. 📜
