Posthumous work by Polish cinema master Andrzej Wajda about the figure of the legendary artist Wladyslaw Strzeminski and his struggle against Stalin’s oppression.
In 1948, when Stalin lays his hands on Poland, the famous painter refuses to compromise his art with the doctrines of socialist realism. Persecuted, expelled from his university position, he is suddenly erased from museum walls. With the help of some of his students, he begins to fight against the party and becomes the symbol of artistic resistance against intellectual tyranny.
