In 2009, the poet and flamencologist Félix Grande shaped a unique creation: a flamenco Passion conceived for the film El Discípulo, directed by Emilio Ruiz Barrachina. That work, barely shown at the time, condensed tradition, lyricism, and popular religiosity through cante jondo and poetic language. Today, the director fully recovers that composition to bring to light a stage show that transcends the musical and the dramatic: a flamenco reinterpretation of the last moments of Jesus Christ, not only as a divine and redemptive figure, but also as a vulnerable man, besieged by pain, doubt, and an impossible love.
Grande established an essential condition from the beginning: that the voice of Jesus be embodied by Paco del Pozo, a singer with a deep and expressive timbre, winner of the Lámpara Minera. His choice sought to unite the sacred and the earthly in a voice capable of transmitting hope, anguish, and passion. In this definitive version, Del Pozo not only interprets Jesus but also assumes the musical direction, providing coherence, rigor, and duende.
The work delves into the physical and spiritual ordeal of the Messiah and his most intimate dimension: the forbidden love for Mary Magdalene, where the divine and the human clash in a poetic and eternal tension. The result is a flamenco liturgy of great aesthetic and symbolic intensity, a tribute to the legacy of Félix Grande and an invitation to rediscover the Passion from a deeply lyrical and universal perspective.
