About the event

Are you passionate about history and music? I invite you to discover the fascinating origins of the instruments we consider traditional today in a unique talk-workshop that will transport us directly to the Middle Ages. 🎶

This session is a perfect opportunity to explore how King Alfonso X the Wise and his Cántigas de Santa María left us an invaluable legacy regarding the music and instruments of his time.

What will we learn?

During this meeting, we will delve into the history, musicology, and organology of instruments that marked an era. We will analyze pieces that have endured through the centuries, connecting the medieval past with our current culture:

  • Instruments with origins in Ancient times, such as harps, lyres, and lutes. 🎻
  • Instruments with prehistoric roots, including flutes and drums.
  • Traditional instruments of Asturias present in the codices, such as the bagpipes, the square tambourine, the tejoletas, and the rabel. 🥁
