Off Niemeyer: A Way of Life

Saturday, December 5, 2026, 08:00 PM-09:40 PM
About the event

An epistolary relationship between the Belgian novelist Amélie Nothomb and an American soldier stationed in the Iraq War, Melvin Mapple, serves as the starting point for this play. Through their letters, the soldier reveals how he has transformed his body, gaining 100 kilos in response to the horror of the battlefield, turning his own fat into his personal creation.

The play proposes a revision of the Frankenstein story, exploring the relationship between body and mind, writing and reality, and the creative obsession. It is a profound reflection on the monstrosity that dwells within us and the need for the other to endure existence.
