Malquerida

At the summer estate of Esteban and Raimunda, the engagement party for Acacia and Faustino is being celebrated. After being widowed, Raimunda married Esteban, a man hated by her stepdaughter. Tragedy looms over the family when, on the night of the engagement, the groom is murdered. The sons of Uncle Eusebio, the victim’s father, accuse Raimunda’s nephew, who had been Acacia’s first suitor. However, other townspeople know he is innocent.

Soon, a folk song begins to be heard through the streets: “He who loves the girl from the Soto… has a life of sorrow. For loving her, those who love her call her… the Malquerida.” As the net tightens, hidden and forbidden desires begin to surface. El Rubio, the estate foreman, fuels the rivalry between the families and stokes the conflict. Determined to discover the truth, Raimunda will not rest until she finds that light which, like fire, will consume all her dreams.
