Corals. What Darwin Overlooked

About the event

The renowned artist and image theorist Joan Fontcuberta presents at the Centro Niemeyer an extraordinary inventory of some of the rarest, most unique, and hitherto little-known corals. Curated by Antonio Tabernero, the exhibition invites reflection on the work of Darwin and the fragility of these organisms.

About the exhibition

In this exhibition, Fontcuberta revisits various locations to photograph corals that Darwin overlooked, speculating on how their evidence might have influenced the canonical formulation of the Origin of Species. The work reveals the unprecedented beauty of organisms whose preservation is today dramatically threatened by climate change.
