La Casa de Cultura de Llanes is dedicating a film series to Gonzalo Suárez (Oviedo, 1934 – Madrid, 2026), director, screenwriter, writer, and journalist, who passed away on September 29. The tribute is organized by the Ayuntamiento de Llanes, the Asociación Vecinal de Lledías, the Festival Oriéntate, and the Cine Club de Llanes; following an initial screening on October 17 at the Casa Concejo de Lledías with “El genio tranquilo”, in November the series moves to the assembly hall of the Casa de Cultura with four of his most representative films.
The opening session at the Casa de Cultura features the screening of “Remando al viento”, a 1988 romantic drama starring Hugh Grant, in one of his first leading roles, alongside Elizabeth Hurley. The film brings together at Villa Diodati, the mansion of Lord Byron, Mary Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and physician John Polidori, challenged by Byron to write a horror story: out of that bet, “Frankenstein” would be born. It won several awards at the 3rd Goya Awards, including best director, and the Sant Jordi Award for best Spanish film.
