The Casa Municipal de Cultura de Llanes is the cultural centre of the Llanes town council and occupies the former Palacio de Posada Herrera, a building from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Three of the oldest and most important families of the town (Valdés, Rivero and Posada) took part in its foundation and upkeep, and the politician and economist José de Posada Herrera, who went on to preside over the Council of Ministers of Spain, was born there.

It is a sober building of notable bearing, with two large twin towers at the corners of one of its facades, now fully restored. Besides the Casa de Cultura, the palace houses the Conservatorio de Música and keeps the Municipal Library and Archive.
