The zarzuela Carretera de Avilés. El regreso is the third and final installment of this exciting journey through the history of a town, personified by Mauricio, a “young lad” from Avilés who lived through some of the most significant and moving moments in the transformation of the town of Avilés. Social, architectural, cultural, and economic changes blend with songs and melodies that traveled from Cuba to Spain and have endured for over a century.
Mauricio’s life was a round trip “from Avilés to La Habana, from La Habana to Avilés.” The story of a generation that crossed the ocean seeking fortune and ended up helping to build a new city, proud of itself. Like the habaneras of his youth, his existence was made of nostalgia, memory, distance, and hope.
