In BESTIA SAGRADA, Isabel Do Diego makes the flamenco quejío permeable to the vocal physicality of different liturgies, from the sacred chant of the European Middle Ages to the call to prayer in Mesopotamia or the recitation of Japanese bunraku. The artist embodies a voice inhabited by different vermin, creating a folkloric bestiary supported by electronic bases composed as sonic trompe-l’oeils.
The proposal is articulated through three instrumental beasts —NIGAWARAI, MANTÍCORA, and IFRIT— that bring a dragged, torn, and broken electronic sound to the live performance. Isabel Do Diego inhabits a stage of her own where she ritualizes this musical journey, turning the scene into an altar for folkloric thaumaturgy and the celebration of the monstrous as a deified entity.
