Teatro Riera is a theatre and cinema in Villaviciosa, promoted and financed by the industrialist Laureano Riera García, a member of a local family linked to the food trade. The 1942 project was signed by the architect Fernando Cavanilles Batalla, born in Villaviciosa, and the hall opened its doors on 21 November 1945.
The building brings together the auditorium with offices and homes behind a symmetrical facade in a historicist style, with the central section wider and taller than the side ones. It originally had 410 seats in the stalls and about a hundred more in general seating; today its capacity is around 270. For decades it alternated cinema with theatre and the town’s main cultural events. It closed on 6 May 2002 and reopened in 2008 under the Villaviciosa town council.
