The Casa de Cultura Juan de Mairena occupies the Reguero house, regarded as the oldest building in the town of Tapia de Casariego. According to municipal sources it appears to have been built in 1613, and its main facade bears a coat of arms, a feature found on few houses in the municipality: within the town itself only the Casa de la Torre shares it.
In the late 20th century the building was remodelled to turn it into a cultural centre, an intervention which, according to the town council, cost it its original appearance. Since 2010 Tapia also has a newer Casa de Cultura on Plaza del Mercado, which brings together the auditorium, the library and the tourist office.
