About this venue

Somiedo Natural Park covers the territory of the municipality of Somiedo, in the central part of the Cantabrian Range. It was the first Asturian area to be declared a natural park, in 1988, and UNESCO recognised it as a Biosphere Reserve in 2000.

Its landscape is organised around four main valleys, with 39 population centres and a terrain whose highest point is El Cornón, at 2,194 metres. There are lakes of glacial origin, such as those of Saliencia and del Valle, and the brown bear stands out among its wildlife. Teitos, thatched-roof huts, are one of the emblems of the municipality, and the park’s interpretation centre is in Pola de Somiedo.
