About this venue
The Saliencia Lakes are a group of glacial lakes in the municipality of Somiedo, inside the Somiedo Natural Park. They include Calabazosa (or Lago Negro), Cerveriz, the Almagrera lagoon (or La Mina) and La Cueva, cirque lakes shaped by glacial overdeepening and linked to one another by glacial valleys.
The group was declared a natural monument on 22 May 2003 and lies within the Somiedo biosphere reserve. It is also listed in the Instituto Geominero de España’s catalogue of Geological Interest Sites. The area has several hiking routes.
