Ecomuseo de Somiedo

The Ecomuseo de Somiedo is a museum spread across the municipality that interprets how its inhabitants have shaped the landscape and everyday life. Conceived as a space for study, conservation and outreach, it is organised into three sites. In Caunéu, near the road between La Pola and the Puerto de Somiedo, the former mid-20th-century school houses the municipality’s traditional crafts and a space devoted to livestock transhumance. At the fairground in La Pola, display cases shaped like thatched cabins cover farming, transport, hunting and fishing.

In Veigas, in the Saliencia river valley, visitors can see houses with broom-thatched roofs (teito) and old furnishings, as they were when still lived in, until the mid-1980s, to explain how housing in Somiedo evolved. Some belong to the Consejería de Cultura of the Principado de Asturias and others to the Ayuntamiento de Somiedo.
