Parque La Laguna

The Parque de La Laguna is in El Entrego (L’Entregu), the largest town in the municipality of San Martín del Rey Aurelio. Rectangular in layout, like almost every park in the Nalón valley, it stands next to the Casa del Pueblo; the stage house of the Teatro Nuberu faces the park, and the neo-Romanesque church of San Andrés is close by. Behind it runs the promenade that follows the valley from Pola de Laviana to La Felguera.

It occupies the site of a former chapel of the same name, where the writer Leopoldo Alas “Clarín” was married. It has a bandstand and a monument to Doctor Dimas Martínez by the sculptor Félix Alonso Arena. Every July it hosts the Fiestas de La Laguna, the town’s patron-saint festivities, held here since 1907, when the land was still a meadow known as the Prau d’Abaxu; since 2006 the Encuentro Medieval has set up its medieval market around the park.
