The Museo de la Minería y la Industria de Asturias (MUMI) is in El Entrego, in the municipality of San Martín del Rey Aurelio. It opened on 4 March 1994 on the former spoil heap of the Pozo San Vicente colliery and ranks among Spain’s pioneering museums in giving value to the mining and industrial heritage.
The main building has a cylindrical central body from which the headframe tower rises. Its displays cover mining activity in Asturias since the 18th century, and it features the so-called “mina imagen”, an underground gallery recreating a mine, reached by a lift that imitates a mining cage.
