About this venue

Blimea is a parish in the municipality of San Martín del Rey Aurelio, in Asturias; its urban core, together with El Entrego and Sotrondio, forms the municipal capital. The Nalón river splits the parish territory in two and opens up a wide valley floor on which the town of Blimea, the head of the parish, stands. It is an old parish: it already appears as Vimea in an inventory of parishes commissioned by the Bishop of Oviedo in 1385-1386, and it belonged to Langreo until, in the 19th century, it became part of the present-day municipality.

The parish church was built after the Civil War, after the 16th-century church burned during the conflict; it keeps a 17th-century carving of the Virgen de las Nieves. The heritage is completed by the Miramar bridge, a riveted metal lattice structure, and the Casa del Bravial, today the Museo de la Memoria. The fiestas of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves are held on the first weekend of August.
