About this venue

Pimiango is a village in the parish of the same name, in the municipality of Ribadedeva, at the eastern end of Asturias. Its points of interest include the rock paintings of the Cueva del Pindal, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2008, and, from the Mirador del Picu, views of the San Emeterio lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old.

Its shoemakers, who worked itinerantly across Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and northern Castile, devised a jargon of their own, mansolea, so as not to be understood by outsiders. In early March the village holds the festival of San Emeterio and San Celedonio, which has been declared of tourist interest by the Principality of Asturias.
