The Casa de Cultura de Puerto de Vega, in the municipality of Navia, is a cultural complex in the centre of the village made up of four buildings joined into one, known as Casa de Cultura Príncipe Felipe. It brings together the municipal Biblioteca Pública Jovellanos, the Álvaro de Navia Osorio multipurpose hall, the Museo Etnográfico Juan Pérez Villamil and the Centro de Recepción Historias del Mar, a gateway to the Parque Histórico del Navia.
The ethnographic museum, opened in September 2001 on the initiative of the Asociación Amigos de la Historia and run since 2006 by the foundation of the same name, occupies the east wing of the former La Arenesca canning factory. Its rooms recreate the traditional house, farming and seafaring trades and emigration, while Historias del Mar looks back at the village’s whaling, fishing and canning past.
