The Teatro Vital Aza, in La Pola (Pola de Lena), occupies the building of the former Cine Vital Aza, which operated between 1954 and 1995. Its first screening, on 5 August 1954, was “Duelo al sol”, and the last film, “Días contados”, was shown on 24 July 1995.
During those decades it was run by the Pesquera family of Mieres, until in January 1997 the Lena town council agreed to acquire it. In November 2000 an agreement was signed with the Principality and Cajastur to fund its rehabilitation, and it now works as a theatre and cinema; together with the Casa de Cultura, it is one of the town’s two cultural centres. The building stands perpendicular to the main street, with a narrow facade of about 15 m and a depth of 35 m, under a zinc-clad gabled roof.
