Mier

Mier is a small village in the municipality of Peñamellera Alta, in eastern Asturias, and the only inhabited settlement in the parish that bears its name. It lies about 4.3 kilometres south of Alles, the municipal capital, at an altitude of 64 metres, on the floor of the Cares valley.

The river splits the village into two neighbourhoods, Mier d’Acá and Mier d’Allá, and the parish climbs from the riverbank to peaks of over 1,200 metres. Its notable buildings include the parish church of San Pedro, from the 16th century, and several manor houses and palaces from the 16th and 17th centuries, such as the Palacio de La Lanjarera and the Palacio de los Mier. The village festival is held on 6 August in honour of San Justo.
