About this venue
Plaza Porlier is in Oviedo’s historic centre, next to the cathedral of San Salvador, and is bounded by the streets Eusebio González Abascal, Schultz, San Juan and Mendizábal. Palaces such as Valdecarzana and Camposagrado stand around it.
Before taking its current name it was known as Plaza de la Fortaleza; during the constitutional period it came to honour General Juan Díaz Porlier, nicknamed “el Marquesito”. Today it is home to Eduardo Úrculo’s sculpture “El regreso de Williams B. Arrensberg”, known as “El viajero”.
