About this venue
The Museo Arqueológico de Asturias occupies the former Benedictine monastery of San Vicente in Oviedo. It is a state-owned museum under the Ministry of Culture, whose management has been transferred to the Principality of Asturias since 1991, and it acts as a centre of reference for researching and promoting Asturian archaeology.
Its permanent exhibition, spread over three floors, covers the region’s main cultural stages, from prehistory up to the beginning of the modern era, supported by scale models, reconstructions and audiovisuals. The monastery’s cloister was declared a national monument in 1934, and the museum reopened on 21 March 2011 after being closed since 2004.
