The Estanque de los Patos (“Ducks’ Pond”) is one of the water features of the Campo de San Francisco, the large park in the centre of Oviedo, which covers about nine hectares. It is designed to protect the ducks and swans that live in it while letting people watch them without disturbing them, and it is an almost obligatory stop for children.
Since October 2014, a statue of Mafalda, Quino’s comic-strip character, has sat on one of the benches beside the pond. It is the work of Pablo Irrgang and is linked to the Prince of Asturias Award given to the cartoonist. Visitors of all ages sit next to it to have their photo taken.
