About this venue

Parque Jovellanos (Xovellanos in Asturian) is, according to Mieres town council, the town’s most emblematic park, covering 1.23 hectares. It was built in phases: the first began in March 1950 with the lawns, the paving of the paths and the flower beds; work continued until 1954, when the skating and dance rink with its bandshell was completed, and in February 1959 the lighting and decorative elements were finished.

Today it has four children’s play areas and a varied collection of trees: magnolias all around the perimeter, plane trees, two sequoias that stand out for their height, a ginkgo, Atlas and Himalayan cedars and palms, as well as shrubs such as camellias and hydrangeas.
