The Biblioteca Pública de Mieres, also known as the Biblioteca Pública Vital Aza, is part of the municipality’s library network, a service owned by the town council. Its home, the municipal library-archive, is in the Casa de Cultura Teodoro Cuesta on calle Manuel Llaneza, a building opened on 31 May 1988 that it shares with the Tourism Office and the Conservatory.
The Casa de Cultura, with a U-shaped plan and two floors plus an attic, was extended in 2007 with a 400-seat theatre and a 120-seat assembly hall. The building is named after Teodoro Cuesta, a writer in the Asturian language who was also a musician and composer. The library celebrated its centenary in 2019, and the network it belongs to organises reading clubs, creative writing workshops, meetings with authors, exhibitions and book presentations.
