The IES Carmen y Severo Ochoa is a secondary school in Luarca, the capital of the municipality of Valdés. It was born from the merger, in the 1996-1997 school year, of the Carmen y Severo Ochoa and Ramón Losada institutes, and today it is spread over two buildings.
The Carmen y Severo Ochoa building, on Plaza del Catedrático Ramón Losada, houses the ESO (compulsory secondary) classes and most of the teaching departments, and is also the seat of the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de Luarca. The Ramón Losada building, erected between 1967 and 1969 for the former Escuela de Maestría Industrial, completes the facilities. The school also offers vocational training in Electricity and Electronics, Administration and Management, and Vehicle Transport and Maintenance.
