The Campo de San Timoteo is the open ground surrounding the hermitage of San Timoteo in Luarca, and the setting of the pilgrimage (romería) that marks the saint’s festivities.
Every 22 August, pilgrims accompanied by bagpipe groups and wearing the traditional bread “T” around their necks make their way to the hermitage. A Mass is held there, the saint is brought out to an outdoor chapel, and a picnic follows in the surrounding fields. The festivities, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Principality of Asturias, begin the night before with fireworks and a dance.
