About this venue

Nueva is a parish in the municipality of Llanes and also the name of its main village, about 18 km from the municipal capital. It occupies a valley between Mount Socampo, also called Cantollano, and Pico Maor, and the Ereba river crosses it from south to north.

Its heritage highlights include the Palacio de los Condes de la Vega del Sella, from the 18th century, which preserves inside it the 11th-century Torre de San Jorge; the chapel of the Santo Cristo del Amparo, from 1712; and several indiano houses built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The earliest firm documentary mention places here a stop by King Charles I, who rested and lunched in the tower on his way to Llanes. The festivities of the Santo Cristo del Amparo, declared of Tourist Interest in Asturias, take place on 13 and 14 September; Nuestra Señora del Henar is celebrated on 5 August.
