La Felguera is the most populous parish in the municipality of Langreo and the main hub for shopping, hospitality and leisure in the Nalón district. Its history is tied to industry: the town grew around the ironworks that Pedro Duro, a native of La Rioja, built here in the late 1850s, the seed of today’s Duro Felguera. It was there that steel was produced for the first time in Asturias, in 1887.

Today the grounds of that factory host the Valnalón Technology City, and in 2006 the Museo de la Siderurgia de Asturias opened in its former facilities. Every December the Jornada de Su Excelencia La Fabada is held, declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
