The Casa de Cultura de Grado is housed in the Miranda-Valdecarzana palace, in the centre of the town. Construction seems to have begun in the 15th century on the foundations of an earlier building, perhaps a defensive tower from the 13th or 14th century, and its present appearance comes from numerous later restorations and alterations, including some from the Baroque period. It was declared a National Monument in 1981.
Besides its cultural use, the building holds the Aula de las Metáforas, a library devoted to poetry promoted by the poet Fernando Beltrán and officially inaugurated on 29 February 2004, and the Llagar de sidra space of the Ethnographic and History Museum of Grado, with two large cider presses, one of them decorated with old carvings.
