Weather data from MET Norway (Yr)
Playa de Poniente, also known as Playa de Pando, lies in the west of Gijón, about 800 metres from the centre and next to the marina, which marks its eastern edge; to the west it borders the El Natahoyo neighbourhood. It is a wide, stable stretch of sand about 500 metres long, with a promenade of similar length that forms part of the accessible pedestrian route between Cimavilla and Poniente.
It is an artificial beach, recovered in the 1990s and opened in May 1995. It occupies the site of the former Pando beach, which had disappeared because of port uses and the shipyards.
