About this venue

Parque de Isabel la Católica is an urban park in the El Bibio neighbourhood of Gijón, covering around 151,857 m², which makes it one of the largest urban parks in Asturias. It was designed in 1941 by Ramón Ortiz on land that had been marshy and was filled in with slag and rubble.

Today it is a garden of paths with flower beds and borders, two ponds and a collection of 65 plant species with more than 1,200 specimens. Squirrels, peacocks and various waterfowl live there freely or semi-freely. The park also holds the first monument erected anywhere in the world in honour of Alexander Fleming.
