About this venue
The Museo Nicanor Piñole is devoted to the work of the Gijón-born painter Nicanor Piñole (1878-1978). Much of its collection comes from a donation by his widow, Enriqueta Ceñal, and includes genre scenes, still lifes and portraits.
It is housed in the former Asilo Pola, an eclectic-style building designed by the architect Luis Bellido and opened in 1908 as a school run by the Hermanas de la Caridad. After it closed in 1986 it passed to Gijón City Council, which renovated it as a museum, opened on 27 April 1991.
