The Jardines de la Reina are a green space in central Gijón, next to the marina promenade on Calle Marqués de San Esteban. They were laid out in 1889 to the south of the old dock, which was reduced in size as a result, with the aim of beautifying an urban setting that was becoming ever more industrialised.
When the old dock was converted into a marina, several areas of the harbour were pedestrianised, and these gardens were among the main ones. Today they are a green space with sparse tree cover, including palm trees, between the city centre and the water of the dock.
