About this venue
Valdepares is a parish in the municipality of El Franco, on the western coast of Asturias. The village of El Franco, one of its settlements, was the capital of the municipality between 1583 and 1852, when the seat moved to La Caridad.
Its heritage includes the parish church of San Bartolomé, in the Fonfría neighbourhood, and, close to it, the 16th-century Palacio de Fonfría, which is privately owned. The pre-Roman hillfort of Cabo Blanco, dating back to the early Iron Age, also survives. The patron feast honours San Bartolomé and is held on 23 and 24 August.
