Novellana (Nuviana or Nuveana in Asturian) is one of the parishes of the municipality of Cudillero and occupies the western part of the municipality. To the north it faces the Cantabrian Sea, to the east it borders Soto de Luiña, to the west Ballota and to the south the municipality of Valdés. Besides the village that gives the parish its name, it includes the localities of Castañeras and Resiellas.
In 1992 it received, jointly with Soto de Luiña, the Prince of Asturias Award for Exemplary Town, and three decades earlier, in 1962, it had won the contest for the most beautiful village in Asturias.
